A WORD FROM YOUR BLOGGER: WHO'S REALLY GOT THE PROBLEM

SO I'VE HAD THE DISCUSSION TIME TO TIME ABOUT HOW BEING NATURAL COMES WITH A LOT OF NEGATIVE BACK LASH SUCH AS NOT BEING ACCEPTED IN THE CORPORATE WORLD BECAUSE IT'S TO ETHNIC FOR YOUR CAUCASIAN COLLEAGUES WHICH CAN JEOPARDIZE YOUR LATTER TO THE TOP. I JUST FELT THE NEED TO SHARE MY OPINION. TO PERFECTLY HONEST I HAVE HAD MORE BLACK AMERICANS JUDGE ME AND NOT HIRE ME BECAUSE OF MY HAIR. I'VE HAD MORE BLACK AMERICANS WHO ASK "WHY WOULD YOU DO THAT TO THAT TO YOUR HAIR" OR " WHY DON'T YOU KEEP IT TWISTED" ETC. AND TO BE MORE HONEST I'VE HAD MORE CAUCASIANS WHO COMPLIMENTED ME ON MY HAIR. SO IN MY EXPERIENCE I'VE SEEN MORE BLACK PEOPLE BECOME THREATEN OF MY APPEARANCE BECAUSE IT DOESN'T LOOK LIKE WHAT THEY ARE USE TO SEEING AND THEY CAN'T UNDERSTAND WHY YOU WOULD WANT PEOPLE TO KNOW YOUR HAIR IS NAPPY. AND WITH THAT I'VE" BECOME MORE ACCEPTING AND EMBRACED THE NAPS IN MY HEAD BECAUSE AS THE SAYING GOES " I'M HAPPY TO BE NAPPY!"

"MORE ON MS. E-RADICAL"

Just thought I'd give you all a snippet on what's to come For Ms. E. Badu on her upcoming video set! So I'm guessing it's spin from her recent charges from the last video. Can you say " WAS IT ALL A MASTER PLAN???........................."

Since our inspiration for the week is Jill Scott and funky fly flow, I figure Ms. Badu would naturally fit in with her platinum blond Mohawk. I don't know about anyone else but I'm loving this look ( besides the fact that she's my favorite artist). She still gives you a neo-soul, earthy feel with her dress but she throws you a little funk with the hair and the earrings. That's all it takes ladies! Not telling you to dress like Ms. Badu ( that's an acquired tastes that can be appreciated but not mimicked) but just to say that there are little ways you can take your earthly shine to the next step with just a little dab here or there. It shows that we're even more diverse than the hair!

ONE THAT LEFT TOO SOON?

I SOOO LUV THIS EDITORIAL PIECE OF SOLANGE FROM HONEY MAGAZINE WHEN SHE WAS SHORT AND NATURAL! IT'S STRIKING AND DARING FROM HER EDGY PRINTED SHOES TO HER MAKE UP...NOT TOO MUCH BUT JUST ENOUGH! GO SOLANGE! ALTHOUGH THIS PHOTO WAS TAKEN ABOUT A YEAR AGO SHE HAS RECENTLY GROWN HER HAIR BACK BUT SHE STILL FLAUNTS HER CARELESS MANE AFRO! I'VE ALWAYS LOVED HER STYLE SINCE SHE GREW INTO HER OWN....IT ALWAYS GIVES ME THAT RETRO MEETS FLOWER CHILD.

HAIR WE GO AGAIN! NATURALES VS. EXTENSTIONS

Okay I've a question for all of our sisters. WHY is it when a woman wants to go natural or does go natural and makes a statement that is an encouragement for other women to feel okay about going natural, why is it taking NEGATIVELY as if  either choice is better than the next. If you don't want to be natural FINE but because black women who become NATURALIST; and want to reconnect with our roots and was once what we only needed to separate us from the rest, doesn't mean that they are downing any other black woman who doesn't. NO different from a black woman picking and gasping when a woman doesn't get a relaxer or extensions. SO in saying all of that is to say BLACK WOMEN we have to stick together and embrace our beauty in all aspects and would she feel or make any other women feel less because of the options they choose or why.

A NATURAL SUCCESS!

I LOVE IT MS. MICHELLE! IF YOU DON'T KNOW NOW YOU KNOW...TO LOOK OUT FOR NATURALISM AT IT'S FINEST. NO MORE HIDING OUR BEAUTIFUL BLACK FEATURES BEHIND FAUX MANES AND PIECES. AS SOMEONE WHO'S NATURAL MYSELF, THOUGH SOME MAY FEEL THAT IT'S HARD MAINTENANCE AND TAKES WORK TO KEEP IT LOOKING PRESENTABLE, BUT IT'S ACTUALLY SO COMPLIMENTARY TO OUR FEATURES AND WITH THE RIGHT COLOR YOU CAN MAKE HEADS TURN. A MAN LOVES TO BE ABLE TO FEEL YOUR HAIR LONG OR SHORT. AS LONG AS HE DOESN'T HAVE TO WORRY ABOUT SEEING IT IN THEIR HAND! CHRISETTE MICHELLE I HAVE CROWNED YOU QUEEN OF ALL NATURALE!

MY MOMENT: VENTING

(picture above is of Fashion Designer Tracy Reese. Find more about her and the other ten awesome black designers on www.thefrisky.com )
Call me angry, a hater, or better yet frustrated at the fact the we as Black People have to break down yet another barrier. We couldn't get the respect and acknowledgment that we deserved from sports ( particularly tennis and golf, probably hockey next) music, and once again we have to do the same for the Fashion Industry. Is it NOT a coincident that the top most creditable designers are anything but BLACK! And I honestly thought that I could be the one to break down those walls until I learned about the abundance of black designers already in the game but doesn't get the recognition entitled to them. Think about it what black person ever won Project Runway and lets be real Kotor should have won and not because she was black but because she was GOOD! I honestly get soooo frustrated in this industry when once again as the black minority you have to go over and beyond just to be put in the same light as the rest of the designers. You have to do something a little more special and spectacular just to be considered as somewhat good, so heaven forbid that caucasianal  suspect is an over achiever.......you have much work to do! Or these could be my own demons. Just saying! But despite it all keep it sweet sugas!

NIKKI MINAJ : SETTING TRENDS OR DISGRACING WOMEN?

Despite how some may feel about Ms. Minaj's explicit lyrics and her offensive attire, I personally feel she brings a different flavor. She's daring with style and limitations and she's actually very much aware with who she's  wearing. I also like the fact that she adds her own personal touch. Now I might not rock the different colored hair but I believe that's an accessory that works for her and she lets the main stream fashion industry know that black women (especially women in the rap game) aren't always about the double G's on their clothing or the cat and apples stitched on their ass, we actually can go beyond what some may think is the typical black female status of fashion.
